About

The interdisciplinary approach to development, execution, and value creation.

IDST Projects is a real estate development, consulting, and project management firm in a class of its own. Drawing on expertise in the business, construction, and creative worlds, IDST excels in transforming physical spaces and places. Utilizing the Interdisciplinary Approach, IDST studies development opportunities through multiple lenses to determine highest and best uses, cost effective value-add strategies, and most efficient project executions. This critical thinking approach, integrating knowledge and methods from different disciplines, positions IDST to convert complexity into value.
Founder and lead consultant Tim Shopa is a real estate development executive specializing in the execution of complex development and repositioning projects. With over twenty years of experience, Shopa has executed a quarter billion dollars in development across commercial and residential assets in the New York metropolitan area. His work spans the full lifecycle of development, from underwriting and pre-construction through delivery, bringing a disciplined, detail-driven approach to every phase of a project.
Shopa has deep experience coordinating across design teams, consultants, contractors, and ownership groups, with a focus on maintaining alignment between vision, budget, and schedule. His background across multiple facets of development enables him to anticipate challenges early and drive efficient, well-executed outcomes.
Prior to development, Shopa worked in creative production, collaborating with leading artists and creative directors and overseeing exhibition design and execution. This experience continues to inform his approach, particularly in the repositioning of historic properties and the integration of cultural elements into the built environment.
He previously served as Vice President of Development at Caspi Development, where he led a range of ground-up and repositioning projects, and currently serves on the board of the New York City Museum of Contemporary Art, supporting the advancement of its future Tribeca facility. Through IDST, Shopa applies a rigorous, interdisciplinary approach to development, focused on execution, value creation, and delivering projects that perform.
